Gen Z Protest in Kathmandu Urges Participants to Return After Infiltration Alert

The Gen Z protest in Kathmandu took an unexpected turn as organizers asked participants to return home after infiltration was reported, prompting police to use water cannons and tear gas.

Kathmandu — The ongoing Gen Z protest in Nepal’s capital took an unexpected turn on Monday afternoon. Citing concerns of infiltration in the demonstrations at Baneshwor, organizers called on all participating youths to return home.

Pradeep Gyawali, a Gen Z representative involved in managing the protest, said that an official notice had been published through the Instagram page “Gen.ZNepal.” The notice requested all participants to withdraw from the protest site.

“Infiltration has occurred, so we have already asked everyone to return,” Gyawali stated.

Hundreds of young people had gathered at Maitighar from 9 a.m. and later marched toward Baneshwor around 11 a.m. What began as a peaceful rally escalated as the march approached the Parliament area, intensifying the situation.

As the protest grew more aggressive, security forces deployed water cannons and tear gas to control the crowd. Some demonstrators even entered the Parliament compound but were later removed by security personnel.
