Gagan Thapa Urges Students to Assess Nepal’s Situation with Facts

During a student interaction in Kathmandu, Nepali Congress leader Gagan Kumar Thapa urged young people to rely on facts over rumors when evaluating the country's current state, encouraging critical thinking and active civic engagement.

Kathmandu — Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has urged students to evaluate Nepal’s current situation based on facts rather than superstition or prejudice. Speaking at an interaction program held in the capital on Saturday, Thapa stated that the country is neither completely in disarray nor entirely on the right track, cautioning against falling into such misconceptions.

“Even if there are rumors that the country is collapsing, don’t believe them so quickly. But also be cautious when you hear claims that everything is fine,” he said. Thapa emphasized the importance of acknowledging the positive developments that have taken place in the country while also not hesitating to question past shortcomings.

“We must accept and appreciate the good work that has been done,” he said. “And we should question what should have been done but wasn’t. We must take responsibility. This is not the time to run away; it is the time to stand firm. It is essential to develop the habit of learning, thinking, and challenging.”

Expressing his belief in the potential of the educated youth, General Secretary Thapa said they will determine Nepal’s future direction. “I believe the upcoming generation will be able to make the reforms we failed to achieve. They will be even more capable and vigilant,” he stated.

Engaging openly with students at the program, he encouraged them to play an active role through study, analysis, and constructive criticism.
