The Election Commission of Nepal has rejected circulating claims that its digital system was breached, stating that no unauthorized individual has accessed its website or voter-related information. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the commission dismissed social-media allegations suggesting that voter records were retrieved through illegal entry into its system.
“The commission’s serious attention has been drawn to the claims being shared on social media. No unauthorized person has accessed the Election Commission’s website or the voter information database, and the system remains completely secure,” the statement said.
It added that the commission is committed to protecting all information that must legally remain confidential. According to the commission, information technology experts have been continuously monitoring the system, assessing security risks, and implementing all necessary measures to maintain data security.
PDFs Circulating Online Are Legally Distributed Public Documents
The commission clarified that the PDF files being circulated online as leaked voter records were previously provided legally to election offices and political parties for election-related purposes. These documents, it said, do not contain any sensitive or confidential personal information.
The statement issued by spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai urged the public not to rely on unverified, misleading, or fabricated claims shared on social media. “These materials are routine documents given legally in the past for election purposes and do not include confidential details. We request all stakeholders not to believe or spread unverified and deceptive content,” the spokesperson stated.
