Donald Trump’s UK State Visit: King Charles Hosts Banquet, Military Honors and £150 Billion Investment

President Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK included a royal banquet at Windsor Castle hosted by King Charles, major U.S. investment pledges, and the largest guard of honor ever assembled for a state visit in Britain.

London. Windsor Castle hosted a state banquet on Monday evening as King Charles welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump to Britain. The King praised Trump’s commitment to resolving “some of the world’s most complex conflicts” and urged the United States to maintain its support for Ukraine.

Trump, in his response, emphasized the depth of the U.S.–UK “special relationship,” saying the word alone could not fully describe the bond between the two nations. He called it a partnership built on trust, shared values, and sacrifice.

Royal Ceremony and Diplomacy

The banquet, attended by 160 guests, displayed the full grandeur of the British monarchy. President Trump and First Lady Melania arrived at Windsor Castle by carriage, greeted by an honor guard before reviewing troops in the gardens.

The couple also held private meetings with Prince William, Princess Catherine, and other members of the royal family. At St George’s Chapel, Trump laid a wreath at the tomb of the late Queen Elizabeth II in tribute to her legacy.

The visit carried major economic weight as well. U.S. companies pledged more than £150 billion in new investment in the UK, including £22 billion from Microsoft. Guests at the banquet included Apple CEO Tim Cook and OpenAI’s Sam Altman, underscoring how diplomacy and business often intersect as “soft power.”

Military Honors and Strategic Messages

More than 1,300 personnel from the British Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force formed what was described as the largest “Guard of Honor” ever assembled for a state visit in Britain. The display was widely interpreted as a signal of the UK’s push for continued U.S. support for NATO and Ukraine.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer joined Trump to watch the Red Arrows perform an aerial display, though a planned flypast by F-35 jets was canceled due to poor weather.

In his remarks, Trump praised Prince William as a leader destined for “incredible success” and described Princess Catherine as “radiant, healthy, and beautiful.” As part of the official gift exchange, the British side presented him with the U.S. flag that flew above Buckingham Palace on his inauguration day in January 2025.

The Significance of the Visit

This was Trump’s second state visit to the UK, which he described as one of the “highest honors” of his life. The occasion reinforced the strength of the U.S.–UK alliance and highlighted the importance of shared democratic values, military cooperation, and economic ties.

The pageantry of Windsor Castle, the scale of the military tribute, and the backdrop of record U.S. investment combined to make the visit a defining moment in modern Anglo-American relations.
