Darchula Jeep Accident Kills One, Driver Remains Missing

One person was killed when a jeep traveling from Latinath to Sarsi crashed in Darchula’s Danikhet area. Police identified the victim as 34-year-old Karbir Singh Thagunna, while the driver remains missing.

DARCHULA, Nepal — A man was killed early Friday morning when a jeep went out of control and crashed in Danikhet, Marmar Rural Municipality-3, Darchula District. Police said the jeep, bearing registration number Su Pra 01-001 J 1662, was traveling from Latinath toward Sarsi when it met with the accident.

According to Inspector Bikram Shahi of the Darchula District Police Office, the victim has been identified as 34-year-old Karbir Singh Thagunna, the owner of the vehicle. He died at the scene. Authorities said it is still unclear who was driving the jeep at the time of the crash.

A search team from the Area Police Office, Latinath, has been deployed to locate the missing driver. Police reported that rescue efforts were difficult due to the area’s remote terrain. The jeep was found completely damaged after veering off the road near a bend.

Local residents said they heard a loud crash early in the morning and alerted police. The body of the deceased has been recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
