Anjana Shakya Appointed to Nepal’s Parliamentary Hearing Committee

National Assembly lawmaker Anjana Shakya has joined Nepal’s Parliamentary Hearing Committee, strengthening Upper House representation in the 15-member body.

National Assembly member Anjana Shakya has been appointed to the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, expanding the Upper House’s representation in the joint body that oversees high-level constitutional appointments.

National Assembly Speaker Narayan Prasad Dahal presented her nomination under Rule 25(2) of the Joint Session and Committee Operational Procedures, 2080, which was endorsed by the Assembly.

Shakya, also a member of the Legislative Management Committee, entered the Assembly as a presidential appointee on the Cabinet’s recommendation.

Committee Representation and Constitutional Role

With Shakya’s appointment, the Upper House now has three members in the committee: Congress lawmaker Anand Prasad Dhungana, Maoist Centre’s Jag Prasad Sharma, and Shakya herself.

From the lower house, members include Maoist lawmaker Janardan Sharma, Congress’s Jeevan Pariyar, Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Dol Prasad Aryal, Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Pashupati Shumsher Rana, and UML’s Mahesh Bartual, among others.

The 15-member committee is mandated by Article 292 of the Constitution to conduct hearings on candidates recommended for positions such as the Chief Justice, Supreme Court justices, members of the Judicial Council, heads of constitutional bodies, and ambassadors before their appointment.
