Kathmandu — Senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has acknowledged internal party questions about corruption allegations against party chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal. Speaking to journalists after returning from a China visit on Saturday, Khanal said, “This is a question from the general public, and we too may need to ask such questions.”
When asked, “How can people trust that the party will become stronger and better under the leadership of your chairman, who was released on bail of NPR 3.5 million after being accused of corruption?” Khanal responded, “I recently submitted a written document in the party secretariat meeting. I have not made that document public yet.”
He added, “I decided to keep it within the party first. Discussions on this will take place or are about to take place. After those discussions, I will speak on this matter.” Khanal also emphasized the need for ideological revolution and advancement in the communist movement regarding direction, policy, principles, programs, strategies, and tactics.
In this context, he stressed the importance of unity among leftist parties, saying, “A strong unity among leftists is essential.”
